Hyundai calls the design direction for the all-new Tucson “Art of Steel.” The concept emphasizes strength, precision, and a more rugged presence while still delivering the comfort, efficiency, and everyday usability that have made the Tucson one of Hyundai’s most popular vehicles.

This preview highlights what Hyundai revealed during the Tucson’s October 1 world premiere in New York City, including newly announced capability, technology, design, and powertrain details.

New Generation, New Attitude

The 2027 Tucson is designed to balance daily practicality with greater capability. Its proportions are intended to make it manageable in urban environments while providing the passenger room, cargo flexibility, and available all-wheel-drive confidence needed for weekend travel and outdoor use.

Attachment-ready roof rails support specialized sporting equipment, while the Tucson Hybrid is expected to be able to tow a small trailer weighing up to 3,000 pounds.

Smarter Off-Road Capability

One of the most interesting additions for 2027 is Smart Terrain Assist. The system evaluates traction in real time and predicts the likelihood of wheel slippage, then communicates terrain difficulty through easy-to-understand green, amber, and red guidance on the driver display.

Target Speed Control complements the system by functioning like low-speed off-road cruise control below 16 mph. It manages acceleration and braking so the driver can concentrate on steering.

The 2027 lineup will also include Tucson XRT and the more rugged Tucson XRT PRO, with the XRT PRO adding off-road-oriented equipment such as all-terrain tires and recovery hooks.

Fully Redesigned Exterior

The outgoing Tucson’s familiar appearance gives way to a longer, wider, taller, and tougher-looking SUV. Muscular body lines, prominent fenders, and stronger proportions help define Hyundai’s new “Art of Steel” design language.

Hot-stamped steel is used in key areas to improve impact resistance. LED headlights and taillights will be standard, while higher trims are expected to offer Micro Pixel Lighting with 25,600 LED pixels for precise nighttime illumination, welcome and leaving animations, and a rain-guide function.

More Space, Comfort, and Usability

The Tucson’s larger dimensions translate into additional room for passengers and cargo. The doors now open 10 degrees wider than before, helping simplify entry and exit and making it easier to load children into safety seats.

Inside, Hyundai focused on calm, comfort, and ergonomics. The redesigned cabin uses stress-reducing seating, thoughtful control placement, increased sound insulation, soft-touch materials, and useful storage spaces designed to reduce clutter.

Frequently used functions such as climate controls and audio volume retain physical buttons, while the shift-by-wire selector moves to a stalk beside the steering wheel to free up center-console space.

Interior of the all-new 2027 Hyundai Tucson

Designed for Year-Round Comfort

Available tri-zone automatic climate control will help passengers tailor cabin comfort across multiple seating areas. Hyundai has also announced available 13.5V metal-coated heated glass engineered to provide rapid de-icing in cold weather.

The same glass technology is designed to reduce solar energy entering the cabin by 60 percent in warmer weather, helping keep interior temperatures lower and reducing demand on the air-conditioning system.

State-of-the-Art Technology

The 2027 Tucson introduces Hyundai’s Android-based Pleos Connect infotainment system. Designed around usability and evolving digital functionality, the system includes features such as single-screen operation, gesture controls, and over-the-air software updates.

Hyundai’s new Gleo AI brings natural conversational voice interaction into the cabin. Instead of relying on a connected phone or manually navigating menus, drivers and passengers will be able to ask spoken questions and request information or functions more naturally.

Advanced Hyundai SmartSense Technology

The redesigned Tucson will continue to feature Hyundai SmartSense driver-assistance technology. Hyundai has also announced an in-cabin monitoring system designed to watch the driver’s eyes for signs of drowsiness and proactively recommend a break when necessary.

The system will also help check that a child or pet has not been left behind after the vehicle is parked. Higher trim levels are expected to add more advanced versions of selected driver-assistance technologies.
