SANTA CRUZ

2026 Hyundai Santa Cruz Hero

The Santa Cruz, Hyundai’s uniquely styled sport adventure vehicle, is back to continue its first generation. While many of its attributes carry over from last model year’s refresh, the 2026 Santa Cruz sees a transmission change in the XRT and Limited, which drop the 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission in favor of the 8-speed automatic SHIFTRONIC transmission already in use by the rest of the lineup. The trail-inspired XRT also receives an upgraded Terrain Mode with mud, sand, and snow settings for 2026, and the previously available dark-green interior color has been discontinued.

The Santa Cruz continues to blend the versatility of a small truck with the convenience of a crossover. The 52.1-inch bed presents a range of storage solutions, like a lockable under-bed compartment with drainage that doubles as a cooler, multiple sidewall compartments, and several tie-down anchors. Higher trims offer a factory-installed bed cover and a power outlet for the bed, further enhancing the Santa Cruz’s capabilities. The cab is quite comfortable, with the standard conveniences expected from a daily driver, including a panoramic dual-screen display and wireless smartphone connectivity, as well as available amenities like wireless smartphone charging and a power sunroof. The Santa Cruz can also handle light towing – up to 5,000 pounds with available all-wheel drive – yet it still boasts gas mileage of up to 30 mpg, making it an efficient choice among vehicles with similar qualities. It also comes with Hyundai’s exceptional 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and 3 years/36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, and multipoint inspections).

Trims and Powertrains

The 2026 Santa Cruz comes in trim levels called SE, SEL, SEL Activity, XRT, and Limited. The powertrain on the first three pairs an inline four-cylinder engine (191 horsepower and 181 lb.-ft. of torque) with a SHIFTRONIC 8-speed automatic transmission and a standard front-wheel drivetrain (FWD). According to the EPA’s official estimations, this powertrain returns 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. HTRAC all-wheel-drive (AWD), which is optional for these trims, will reduce both city and highway fuel economy by a single mile per gallon. The XRT and Limited get a turbocharger with their inline four-cylinder, generating 281 horsepower and 311 lb.-ft. of torque. They also come standard with HTRAC AWD and achieve fuel economy of 18 city/25 highway.

The entire lineup gets a selectable Terrain Mode, but the XRT adds exclusive Mud, Sand, and Snow settings. Every Santa Cruz is equipped with independent MacPherson front struts with coil springs and a self-leveling multi-link rear suspension. When it’s properly equipped with trailer brakes, the Santa Cruz can tow up to 3,500 pounds with FWD and 5,000 pounds with AWD. Four-pin trailer pre-wiring is standard, but the SEL Activity, XRT, and Limited are eligible for seven-pin pre-wiring. Only the XRT and Limited come with Tow Mode.
