VENUE vs. Competitors
Subcompact crossovers check several boxes, including five-door versatility, parking ease, and affordability. At the same time, it’s a highly competitive segment, with most mainstream brands having at least one entry in the category. For Hyundai, this starts with the Venue, the company’s most affordable crossover. For a real-world comparison, we pitted this budget-friendly model against two of its key rivals, the Nissan Kicks and the Chevrolet Trax.
To simplify the comparison, we reviewed comparable trims for each vehicle: grades (Venue SEL, Kicks SV, and Trax LT) that tend to offer a sweet spot that balances equipment and price. Our comparison covers 2026 model-year examples with front-wheel drive.

Pricing and Ownership Costs
With an MSRP of $22,825, the Venue SEL is the least expensive choice among this trio. The Chevrolet Trax LT stickers at $23,200, while the Kicks SV costs $24,170. What’s particularly notable about the Venue’s price is the high level of standard features compared to that of its rivals (details are covered below).
Smart car shoppers also look beyond the bottom line by considering long-term ownership costs. Here, the Venue also excels. Based on Edmunds’ five-year projections for ownership expenses (assuming 15,000 miles of annual driving), the Venue costs $0.48 per mile to keep on the road. That calculation compares to $0.53 per mile for the Trax (Edmunds didn’t assess ownership costs for the Kicks). Across every area (depreciation, financing, taxes/fees, fuel, insurance, maintenance, and repairs), the Venue was consistently less expensive to operate than the Trax.
Warranty
The Hyundai Venue comes with America’s Best Warranty, offering unmatched bumper-to-bumper coverage for 5 years or 60,000 miles, compared to 3 years or 36,000 miles for the others. At the same time, Hyundai includes a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, while Nissan and Chevrolet offer the same coverage for only 5 years or 60,000 miles. The program also includes 24/7 roadside assistance for five years with no mileage limitation. This benefit doesn't last as long with Nissan (3 years/36,000 miles) or Chevrolet (5 years/60,000 miles).
Standard Features
The 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL stands out by offering a noticeably higher level of standard comfort and convenience features than either the Nissan Kicks SV or Chevrolet Trax LT. Amenities such as a sunroof, heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control are all included on the Venue, while they’re either optional or unavailable on its rivals. In the case of climate control, both competitors rely on a simpler single-zone setup. The Venue also elevates everyday driving with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, wireless device charging, and an audio system with six speakers (compared to just four in the Kicks).
Safety and driver assistance are another clear advantage for the Venue. It includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and driver attention warning as standard equipment. These advanced features are either optional or not offered at all on the competing models. Notably, the Kicks doesn’t offer lane-keeping assist, and the Trax lacks driver attention warning altogether. Add in standard heated side mirrors—again, only optional on both competitors—and the Venue is better prepared for winter weather.
Fuel Economy
With fuel prices still unpredictable, efficiency can be essential for budget-focused buyers. Here, the 2026 Hyundai Venue holds its own while providing a well-rounded advantage. Its EPA-estimated 29 mpg city and 33 mpg highway (31 mpg combined) edge out the Chevrolet Trax (28 mpg city/32 mpg highway/30 mpg combined), while mostly matching the Kicks (28 mpg city/35 mpg highway/31 mpg combined).
Consumer Reviews
On Edmunds, owners give the Venue an overall rating of 4.3, compared to 4.0 for the Kicks. The Trax is slightly ahead with 4.4.
