The 2025 Kona is a five-passenger subcompact crossover offered in six trims: SE, SEL, SEL Convenience, N Line S, N Line, and Limited. The SE, SEL, and SEL Convenience are equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (output: 147 hp and 132 lb.-ft. of torque) mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The N Line S, N Line, and Limited move up to a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 190 hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque and pairs with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. While front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is an option.
According to the official EPA estimates, FWD Konas with the 2.0-liter engine achieve 29 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. With AWD, those figures adjust to 27 city/29 highway. The 1.6-liter turbo trims return 26 city/32 highway with FWD and 24 city/29 highway with AWD.
Notable Equipment
Hyundai ensures that the ‘25 Kona is well equipped at all levels. The base SE comes with cloth upholstery, proximity keyless entry, push-button ignition, four USB ports (two front and two rear), a 60/40-split folding rear seatback, manually adjustable front seats, manual air conditioning, a 4.2-inch digital gauge cluster, and automatic LED headlights. The SEL gains a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, roof rails, and second-row air vents. The SEL Convenience goes further with heated front seats, Digital Key 2, wireless phone charging, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and LED interior lighting.
The sporty N Line S, while lacking Digital Key 2 and the auto-dimming rearview mirror, includes everything else listed for the SEL Convenience, plus a twin-tip exhaust, upholstery in a combination of Alcantara and cloth, unique N Line front and rear bumpers, gloss-black exterior accents, and ambient interior lighting. The N Line brings back Digital Key 2 and the auto-dimming rearview mirror while also adding a sunroof. At the top of the range, the Limited builds on the SEL Convenience’s amenities roster with H-Tex leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, a HomeLink universal garage door opener, LED projector headlights, full-line LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, and black exterior body cladding.
