Trims, Powertrain, and Driving Range

The ’24 Kona Electric is a chic and affordable compact crossover offered in a choice of three trims: SE, SEL, and Limited. The SE has a 48.6 kWh battery and a 99-kW electric motor generating 133 hp and 188 lb.-ft. of torque. The SEL and Limited get a higher-capacity 64.8 kWh battery and a 150-kW electric motor that makes 201 hp and 188 lb.-ft. of torque. The SE’s battery gets commendable range of up to 200 miles, while the SEL and Limited achieve 261 miles courtesy of the more robust battery.

With the default 11kW Level II charger, the SE will achieve a 10 to 80 percent charge in approximately five hours. This will be drastically reduced to 65 minutes with the use of a 50kW Level III charger, or 45 minutes with a 100kW unit. What’s more, the ’24 Kona Electric has a built-in regenerative braking system that captures and converts the kinetic energy created from braking into usable power for the battery.

Notable Amenities

The SE comes with a comprehensive array of quality features, starting with remote start, proximity keyless entry, automatic LED projector headlights, heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a crisp 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, an array of USB-C ports, and a versatile 60/40-split fold-flat rear seatback. If you go for the SEL you’ll enjoy even more: heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and rear privacy glass. At the top of the range, the Limited is nicely furnished with H-Tex synthetic-leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, the Pixelated Horizontal Lamp, a hands-free liftgate, wireless phone charging, Digital Key, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, V2L charging, and a sunroof.

SmartSense Safety Aids

Hyundai equips the ’24 Kona Electric with a full range of premium driving aids with passenger safety in mind. The SmartSense driver-assist technology suite comes standard to provide blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian and junction turning detection, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, speed limit assist, driver attention warning, safe exit warning, automatic high beams, navigation-based adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and rear occupant alert. The top-tier Limited is loaded with even more features: parking sensors (front, side, and rear), a blind-spot view monitor, a surround-view camera, and Remote Smart Parking Assist (automated parking).

Infotainment and Connectivity

You won’t have to squint to work the infotainment in any Kona EV trim, as a 12.3-inch touchscreen comes standard. All trims get navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. While the SE and SEL receive a basic multi-speaker audio system, the Limited takes things up a notch with a state-of-the-art eight-speaker Bose array.
