Hyundai offers the front-wheel-drive Kona N as a single, standalone trim. It has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 276 horsepower and 289 lb.-ft. of torque. The driver-activated N Grin Shift mode increases output by an additional 10 horsepower for a 20-second burst. It’s all controlled through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission; steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters increase driver engagement and performance. The EPA-estimated fuel economy for the Kona N is 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
The Kona N is packed with excellent features, including proximity keyless entry, leather- and suede-trimmed upholstery, heated front seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, push-button start, an eight-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel and shift knob, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, LED exterior lighting with automatic headlights, automatic temperature control, and rear privacy glass.
It’s differentiated from the regular Kona with track-inspired systems such as launch control with downshift rev matching, a corner-carving differential, an active sport exhaust system, and an electronically controlled suspension with a multi-link rear setup. The N-level upgrades on the vehicle’s outside are highlighted by aerodynamic-enhanced treatments with an underbody air diffuser, a wing-type roof spoiler, and 19-inch alloy wheels with Pirelli summer performance tires.
The 2023 Kona N comes with a full suite of advanced driver aids, including forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, driver attention warning, rear occupant alert, and safe exit warning. Completing the safety picture are a multi-airbag occupant protection system, anti-lock brakes (ABS), traction control, vehicle stability control, and a rearview monitor with parking guidance.
A 10.25-inch color touchscreen is the infotainment centerpiece for the Kona N. Its noteworthy features are navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, SiriusXM satellite radio, multiple USB ports, wireless device charging, Siri and Google Now support, and Hyundai Digital Key (a smartphone app that provides vehicle access without a physical key). Bluelink connected services for emergency assistance, vehicle diagnostics, and other services are included as well.
