2020 Hyundai Venue on Cape Cod

Overview

There's a lot brewing at the Hyundai Motor Company these days, with a slate of redesigns and new-model introductions. Joining the full-sized Palisade SUV for a 2020 model year debut is the subcompact crossover known as the Venue; both are set to go on sale in the fall of 2019. Offered in a simple lineup of two trim levels, the SE and SEL, this compact SUV will get its power from an updated Smartsteam Gamma 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine (121 horsepower). It will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission or the available intelligent continuously variable transmission. In terms of its overall fuel economy, internal estimates indicate that the Venue will achieve a city/highway combined 33 mpg.

Interior Specifications

After the Venue's reveal at the New York International Auto Show in April 2019, Hyundai's head of design, SangYup Lee, stated that the company wanted to come out with a car that was entry-level but not cheap-looking. By focusing on design and technology, rather than the vehicle's performance or off-road capabilities, Hyundai was able to find their sweet spot for the Venue. Also, despite the Venue's subcompact size, its interior space is ample and versatile, thanks to its 60/40-split flat-folding rear seat and a dual-level cargo floor.

Each of the trim levels includes impressive technology features, which even the base SE can enjoy. Some of these features include an 8-inch color infotainment system, automatic headlights, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. The better-equipped SEL adds a six-speaker audio system and is eligible for some options packages, such as the Convenience Package, which adds a proximity key with push-button start, two USB inputs, automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel/shift knob. Another package, the Premium, will include heated front seats as well as LED lighting, while the Sunroof Package adds - you guessed it - a sunroof. Finally, the Connectivity Package integrates navigation and Blue Link Connected Car systems for remote start/unlock, as well as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Echo, and Google Home connectivity (the latter two of which are paired to the vehicle through Hyundai Blue Link technology).

Active Safety Suite

As vehicles are becoming more advanced, active safety features are increasing in effectiveness and are also starting to become available on lower trim levels. The Venue is no different, as it offers plenty of driver-confidence safety features even with its base trim. For example, forward collision warning and lane keeping assist are standard for the SE, as are pedestrian detection and driver attention warning. Additional features such as blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are optional and can be included for even more peace of mind on the road.
