2019 Hyundai Elantra

Overview

With a sharp, new look and America's Best Warranty, the 2019 Elantra surely stands out in a competitive compact sedan segment. The all-new Elantra four-door sedan shows off a new front end with headlights that point like daggers into the grille, creating an edgy appearance. Other noticeable changes to the exterior are the updated fenders, trunk, and tail lights, all of which lend a bit of flash. On the inside, there's a redesigned center stack and instrument cluster, as well as the addition of a handy storage tray for small items.

Trim Levels and Standard Features

The '19 Elantra is available in six trim levels: SE, SEL, Value, Eco, Sport, and Limited. For this model year, some driver-assist safety and technology features have been added to the SEL trim and higher as standard equipment. The middle-of-the-line Value Edition packs in some great features normally reserved for top-level trims, such as a power tilt/slide sunroof, heated front seats, puddle lights, and the hands-free power "smart" trunk release. The ultimate trim, the Limited, spoils its buyers with LED taillights and headlights, auto high beams, power driver seat with lumbar support, heated leather seats, and Infinity Premium Audio with HD radio and eight speakers.

The base 147 horsepower 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine provides enough pep for most drivers, but the Eco trim's 1.4-liter turbocharged engine ups the torque factor a bit while delivering fuel economy of 35 mpg combined. The Sport trim increases the fun with its 1.6-liter turbo delivering 201 horsepower, plus a racing-inspired interior. It comes in either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Overall, the 2019 Elantra provides an above-average driving experience with its equipment, style, fuel efficiency, and technology, yet still retains its most appreciated trait: affordability. All brand-new Elantras come with Hyundai's 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile standard warranty.

Safety & Technology

The base SE model now comes standard with safety features including a rearview camera with dynamic parking guidelines, active lane control, a blind-spot mirror, and vehicle stability management. The SEL and above receive the SmartSense suite, which has additions such as lane departure warning, driver attention warning, forward collision avoidance, driver attention alert, and lane keep assist. With all of these features, plus the car's passive safety features (air bags, front and rear crumple zones, and energy-absorbing steering column), the '19 Elantra is a solid safety pick.

The SE has an integrated infotainment system with a 5-inch touchscreen, which is increased to a 7-inch screen on all trims but the Limited, which receives the upgrades of an 8-inch screen and navigation. The Limited also gets Qi wireless charging pad for easy device charging, but that amenity is not available on the lower trims.
